Hong Kong, China, May 22, 2017 /Xinwengao.com/ - Smartphones, cars, medical devices, fitness trackers, and UAVs (drones), are just a few of the electronic systems that are now packed with sensors. If you change the orientation of your smartphone from vertical to horizontal, for example, the chances are the display will flip automatically from portrait to landscape mode. That familiar electronic trick is enabled by a type of sensor known as an accelerometer. That’s just one example of how a new breed of sensors, many enabled by the latest advances in MEMS technology, many of them highly integrated and multi-functional, are enabling the smart home, the smart factory, the smart city, and the smart energy grid that will ultimately coalesce as the IoT or Internet of Things.
Components available from leading global electronics distributor Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente GmbH (Rutronik) include a comprehensive portfolio of sensors, such as MEMS sensors, pressure sensors and magnetic and optical sensors, from leading suppliers. They also include sophisticated multi-functional or “fusion” sensors, where accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers might be integrated on-chip – in, for example, an aircraft navigational IMU (inertial measurement unit).
The company’s primary target markets are the automotive, medical, industrial, home appliance, energy and lighting industries. The ranges RUTRONIK EMBEDDED, RUTRONIK SMART, RUTRONIK POWER and RUTRONIK AUTOMOTIVE provide customers with specific products and services in groups tailored to their respective applications. These target markets are now incorporating a vast array of sensors in their “smart” solutions for an increasingly smart world.
The following eight sensors are examples of the advanced, increasingly sophisticated sensors now available from Rutronik.
‧ STEVAL-IDI005V1 – STMicroelectronics
The STEVAL-IDI005V1 is an SP1ML-based wireless sensor board powered by a CR2032 coin-cell battery. It can communicate with the STEVAL-SP1ML868 using the P2P AT command set. The board can be programmed through an external 5-pin SWD connector.
The board supports several Smart Home and Smart Things applications, such as heat allocator, smart remote control and wireless sensor node with 868 MHz sub-GHz connectivity.
‧ LSM303DTR – STMicroelectronics
The LSM303DTR is a 6-axis e-Compass LGA-16 SMD. This ultra-compact high performance e-compass incorporates a 3D accelerometer and 3D magnetometer module.
The system can be configured to generate an interrupt signal for free-fall, motion detection and magnetic field detection. Thresholds and timing of interrupt generators are programmable by the end user.
Applications include display orientation, gaming and virtual reality input devices, impact recognition and logging, vibration monitoring and compensation.
‧ BMI160 – Bosch Sensortec
The BMI160 is an inertial measurement unit (IMU) with a state-of-the art low-g 3D accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope. It has been designed for low-power, high-precision 6- and 9-axis applications in mobile phones, tablets, wearable devices, remote controllers, game controllers, head-mounted displays and toys.
‧ BME280 – Bosch Sensortec
The BME280 measures humidity, temperature and pressure, to make it the smallest weather station in the world.
‧ BNO055 – Bosch Sensortec
The BNO055 is a System in Package (SiP), integrating a triaxial 14-bit accelerometer, a triaxial 16-bit gyroscope with a range of ±2000 degrees per second, a triaxial geomagnetic sensor and a 32-bit cortex M0+ microcontroller running Bosch Sensortec sensor fusion software, in a single package.
‧ VCNL4100 – Vishay
The VCNL4100 is a proximity and ambient light Sensor enabling long-distance proximity detection to 1 meter.
‧ VEML6040A3OG – Vishay
The VEML6040A3OG is a digital RGBW color sensor.
‧ NJR4265RF2C1 – New Japan Radio
The NJR4265RF2C1 is a 24 GHz digital doppler module for motion detection.
