Lithium batteries require precision management: Rutronik hosts BMS workshops and seminars for customers in Asia

Hong Kong, China, July 4, 2018 /Xinwengao.com/ - The BMS or battery-management system is key to safe Li-ion battery use, and Rutronik’s BMS Workshops will explain the issues and design options

Global electronics distributor Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente (Rutronik) is hosting a series of one-day workshops and seminars on battery-management systems (BMS), in Greater China and Thailand, from July 30 to August 6. Two workshops will be held in mainland China, namely Shenzhen and Shanghai; 3 seminars by specified customers, also known as Rutronik TechDays, are followed in Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Thailand.

Today’s demanding power applications, such as energy storage, automotive and e-mobility, typically use Li-ion batteries (LIBs), whose optimal efficiency and safety must be ensured by means of a battery management system (BMS). The successful design of a BMS is, however, a major engineering challenge.

High-energy-density batteries are expected to remain in high demand in China, and in Asia generally, where rapid industrialization is driving innovation in sectors such as transportation and consumer electronics. Currently, Rutronik has three offices in China – in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu – as well as subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand, so the company is well positioned to advise its customers in the region on the BMS solutions they require. That expert advice will be available at the workshop-seminar series, according to the following schedule:

#8226; July 30, 2018: Shenzhen – Marco Polo Hotel
#8226; August 1, 2018: Shanghai – Pudong Holiday Inn
#8226; August 2, 2018: Taipei (TechDay by customer)
#8226; August 3, 2018: Kaohsiung (TechDay by customer)
#8226; August 6, 2018: Thailand (TechDay by customer)

Rutronik offers BMS solutions within its RUTRONIK POWER product range, and this seminar and workshop series is intended to cover all aspects of the BMS engineering design process. This detailed approach will analyze how the stringent monitoring of all relevant LIB parameters can be achieved, under all operating conditions, during both charge and discharge cycles, for the safe operation of LIBs in various applications.

Each of the one-day workshop/TechDay events comprises 6 sessions, covering topics that include:

#8226; Battery management systems
#8226; Battery Cell Technology
#8226; Thermal management
#8226; Functional safety with batteries
#8226; Current distribution
#8226; Analysis during loading and unloading
#8226; Hybrid Energy Storage Systems – comprising batteries plus supercaps
#8226; Digital Power
#8226; Advanced battery diagnosis

“A BMS is an absolute ‘must’ for ensuring the safe operation of today’s lithium-based batteries,” said Andreas Mangler, Strategy Marketing Director at Rutronik. “However, BMS design requires expertise in the latest techniques, such as battery-impedance modeling based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). This workshop series is designed to explain the issues, the engineering options and the state-of-the-art in battery management. Everyone is welcome to attend.”

Although these events are free of charge, the number of participants is limited and prompt registration is recommended. To register for an event please contact:
